1974 AMC Javelin AMX
401 V8 bored .30 over 727 auto trans. burgandy red. black interior, all original car. matching numbers. magnum wheels- american racing. dual exaust. original casette player(still works). racing seat covers as seats are a little worn, but good shape. car is a little dirty due to being covered by a car cover, as im 15 and just bought the car a month ago. All body work is good a little rust in the right lower qtr panel, but nothing not fixable.
There’s always a price. I love this car but might need something better in gas.
is this car for sale? … javelins are insane beautiful
Nice car. I’ve got a 73 AMX w/ 304, 998 auto, olympic blue w/ blue interior, 4 wheel drum brakes, no a/c. Has some rare-ish group 19 options. Factory headers, larger disc brakes, upgrade valvetrain and a few others. Also has nearly 40 year old Air Shocks that still work.
@surferboy115 I paid $550 for mine 11 years ago, turned down a 72 Javelin SST in great shape with a bad paint job for $2500. Drove it as a daily driver for 2 years before life forced me to park it. It now hasn’t seen the road since 06. As soon as I get back to work, I’m heading full bore into fixing it up. I wanna at least take it for a spin on my 28th b-day in august. Right after I bought mine, I found a mint 71 Roadrunner (white 383 auto) for $800. I almost wish I would of bought that instead.
I love these amc cars!
i have a 1973 amx javelin with a 360 , its red with tan interior.
in the couple of weeks im gonna be tearing it down to paint it.,
its gonna be candy apple red .
just can’t beat these cars.
Very excellent!
@Geolog66 thanks
awesome car
that thing is beautiful
that thing is beautiful
@ROWB0AT haha dude i have. illegally tho. i raced my buddys 93 5.0 i pretty much beat it but that carb kept stalling me at 2-3k but i pretty much won. i cleaned the carb and it doesnt do that to me anymore. but im gettin the car registered for my birthday which is next week. so ill be able to drive it more just with my parents lol
@surferboy115 I’m not sure if it was a factory option but it might’ve been.. I know the Javelins in the Trans Am Races definitely had them. That color scheme with the black torque thrusts will look mean and clean. I’m just trying to get mine drivable by the end of senior year lol. My interior is close to nothing though. so you haven’t even gotten to drive it?? that’s gotta be torture
@ROWB0AT yah i was amazed too. Ive seen alot of amx’s with barely no interior go for 8K. so i got a steel. this is gonna be my daily driver when i get my license aug 24th. I dont have the front lip. dont think it came with one from factory. Yah i need my bodywork done but ima do it i guess this is my project ima do the work except for painting. The paint job ima do is a met. gray, fat chevelle racing srtipes(not like the mustangs) black, and black torque thrust rims. Factory color- met. copper
@surferboy115 That’s not bad at all really. ESPECIALLY if its a true AMX that thing is worth some bank. Mine just had all the bodywork done for it, same color as yours, cowl hood, rear spoiler, and I really want to get the front lip for it. It’s awesome how complete your interior is. Especially with the red and black that’s awesome.
@ROWB0AT hah yah true i am once i get the money. Ima buy an billet distributer package for $263 with 6al ign and high perf. coil. and $139 for roller rockers. i might buy a double pumper 750 but i dont know yet. Ive been lookin at carbs. I paid 5600$ for it. Theres alot more rust then u see the cars looks alot worse now after sanding and bodywork. Its deff. a 36yr old car haha
@surferboy115 You should definitely put an Edelbrock 750 cfm carb on that it’s more appropriate for the size of engine and you’ll get some more horsepower out of it. That’s what I’m going to do. For right now I’m keeping mine at a stock compression ratio but later I’m going to put it up to 9.5.
No matter what a 401 is a big displacement though haha.
How much did you buy it for?
@ROWB0AT yah thats what ima do. yah i dont really know what the the engine has. the guy who rebuilt the engine said he put a cam and all this into it but theres not a rough idle cuz he said he got the highest one before making it a “strip car” Then he said he put a holly 250 double pumper carb…..which its not its a edlelbrock 500 cfm electric choke. theres an amc performer intake manifold. and a custom exhaust all the way back. he said he put new pistons in…but i bet there the 8.5 cast ones.
@surferboy115 Yeah if you have an AMX with a 401 keep it in there it’s worth so much.
My engines still being built, basically .40″ over, aluminum air gap intake manifold, all new internal components, roller rockers, long tube headers. And it’s going to have a true dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers. Hoping to put out close to 400 hp.
And yeah I’ve seen a 401 engine setup for racing that was bored .60″ over. The 401s have a tougher alloy than any of the other blocks AMC made.
@ROWB0AT hah nice dude. yah maybe down the road i might put a turbo 400 in mine but im prolly not cuz the cars so rare. what did you do to the engine? I didnt know you could go .40 over on the 401 i thought .30 over was the limit, guess not lol. but send me some pics dude id love to see it and the specs on the engine
Dude this ones EXACTLY the same color as mine.
Dropping a 401 .40 over, completely rebuilt in it soon with a T-10 4 Speed.
Love it
have this car checked out i know for a fact it had a fire in the wire harness under hood this is the car me and my father built.
will do. thanks.
Nice AMX! look really clean.next time you do a burn out record it.would love to see more AMX doing burn outs on you tube!
it happens though, good luck with it and enjoy.
It runs good. only problem is it has an exhaust leak passenger side header. gonna buy some new ones. everything ele is good. runs like a Badass. this video doesnt give a good sound to the car. its twice as loud. i didnt rev it that high cuz i had flooded the engine by accident tryin to warm her up right before the video.
